ESTfield Street Baltic Championship TECHNICAL REGULATIONS 2002

1. The regulations are in force from the 1st of January 2002 until the 31st of December 2002, or until their modification. All modifications that are not specifically allowed in the Technical Regulations are prohibited.

2. DEFINITION OF TERMS

ESTfield Street: A 1-2 seater open-topped street-legal sports car which has been manufactured by VST or is home-built. The car must have a national registration number and must fulfil the requirements of the Estonian Traffic Regulations (LE) and those of these technical regulations. Only rear wheel drive is permitted

VST- AS Võidusõidutehnika (RaceTech Ltd).

NOT LIMITED - The relevant component may be modified or replaced. There are no limitations regarding the material, shape or quantity of the component. The component may be removed so long as the safety requirements are not contravened.

PRODUCTION- the specified component as produced by the manufacturer, without any mechanical, thermal, chemical or other modification.

3. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

3.1. In the points not elaborated in these technical regulations, safety requirments must comply with art. 253 of the EAL regulations.

3.2. Safety belts- production safety harnesses with at least four anchorage points are compulsory

3.3. The driver must be able to release the safety harness and exit the car within 5 seconds.

3.4. The driver's seat anchorages to the bodyshell must comply with drawing 253-52 of the EAL Yearbook regulations

3.5. Safety cage - the car must have a safety cage and longitudinal strut with VST serial number. The parts of the cage in the immediate vicinity of the driver must be padded using at least 8 mm thick soft material. A schematic of the safety cage with dimensions is given in Fig. T1.

3.6. Fire extinguishing system- art. 253: there must be a securely fastened fire extinguisher in the car with a mass of at least 3 kg. The extinguisher type must be accepted by the EAL technical commission. The use of CO is prohibited.

3.7. Cockpit heating system- not limited. If the heating radiator is located in the cockpit then there must be a metal or plastic shield between it and the driver to protect the driver from hot fluid.

4. CHASSIS/BODY

4.1. Chassis- manufactured by VST. No modifications to the chassis are permitted except engine and gearbox mounts.

4.2. The car's silhouette and external dimensions must not be modified, (Fig. K1).

4.3. Spoilers, air deflectors, side skirts, under-car aerodynamic elements are prohibited. The floor underneath the car should be smooth.

4.4. The passenger seat may be removed. The passenger compartment may be covered with a soft, easily removed, non-combustible material, as far as the middle of the car. The cover must not interfere with the driver.

4.5. If the tyres on one side of the car are deflated no point on the car except the tyre and wheel may come into contact with the ground.

4.6. A sump-guard may be fitted under the engine and gearbox. The sump-guard material is not limited, but titanium is not permitted.

4.7. The clearance of the fully fuelled car with driver must not be less than 75 mm.

4.8. Wings – manufactured by VST. Wings may not be widened or modified in any way.

4.9. Engine cover (bonnet) – manufactured by VST. Additional apertures may be made for cooling and to accommodate air-filters. There must be no access to the moving parts of the engine through the apertures. The bonnet must be secured with fasteners that prevent it opening when the cat is in motion.

4.10. The dashboard. The instrument console and switches must not injure the driver in the event of an accident.

4.11. Windscreen - the windscreen must be of E-marked laminated (triplex type) glass. The windscreen must be in the normal upright position. Polycabonate aeroscreens with a min. corner radius of 25 mm are also permitted.

4.12. Rearview mirrors- with a minimum area of 55 cm2 must be fitted on both sides of the car. The mirror surface must not be damaged.

4.13. External lights- correctly functioning rear lights are compulsory. The lights must not be damaged or tinted. All lights must be covered with adhesive transparent film. Min bulb sizes: sidelights 10W, brake and fog lights 21W.

4.14. Towing eyes - easily accessible towing eyes must be fitted to both the front and rear of the car. The eyes must be brightly coloured and eye-catching. Viewed from above, the towing eyes must not protrude beyond the external dimensions of the car. The minimum diameter of the opening of the towing eye is 50 mm.

5. WEIGHT OF THE CAR

5.1. The minimum weight of the car and driver is not limited.

6. ENGINE

6.1. 4-stroke internal combustion engines are permitted.

6.2. Swept volume- up to 3500cc. Turbo coefficient is 1.7.

6.3. Turbo- production engine models are permitted.

6.4. Compression ratio- not limited.

6.5. Induction system- not limited.

6.6. Petrol- not limited.

6.7. Air filter and filter casing - not limited.

6.8. Petrol tank- manufactured by VST.

6.9. Petrol pumps- not limited, but must not be located in the cockpit.

6.10. Petrol pipes- must not be located in the cockpit and must be firmly secured to the bodywork. Screw connectors must be fitted where pipes pass through the bodywork.

6.11. Inlet-manifold- not limited.

6.12. Exhaust system and silencer – on the side of the car. The silencer must not protrude beyond the outside dimensions of the car (see Fig. K1). Maximum noise level is 100dB (A). Noise measurement is carried out according to the FIA code, article 252 p.3.6. The silencer must be furnished with a shield to protect against contact with the hot metal surface. Variable exhaust systems are not permitted.

6.13. Engine block- production.

6.14. Cylinder head- production.

6.15. Cylinder head gasket- not limited.

6.16. Crankshaft- not limited.

6.17. Conrods- not limited

6.18. Pistons, rings, gudgeon pins- not limited.

6.19. Camshaft and cambelt pulley wheel- not limited.

6.20. Valves, valve train and valve springs - not limited.

6.21. Lubrication system- original. It is permitted to weld baffles into the bottom of the sump. The sump breather pipe must be directed into a transparent container of at least 2l volume that has a vent opening. The breather pipe fed into the container must be secured.

6.22. Ignition system- not limited.

6.23. Cooling system – not limited. The pump must be production. The radiator is not limited, as long as its location does not change. Covers and deflectors may be used in front of the radiator. The bodywork must not be modified.

6.24. Engine mounting- to the chassis with at least three mounting points.

7. CLUTCH, GEARBOX, AND FINAL DRIVE

7.1. Flywheel- not limited.

7.2. Clutch plate- not limited.

7.3. Gearbox- production, mechanical.

7.4. Half-shaft– production.

8. SUSPENSION

8.1. Wishbones: manufactured by VST, with rubber or poly bushes.

8.2. Track rods and track rod ends are original parts, make not restricted.

8.3. Shock absorbers- production, make not restricted, non adjustable.

8.4. Shock absorber bushes- production, rubber.

8.5. Springs- coil springs adjustable for stiffness.

8.6. Anti-roll bars- not limited, must not be adjustable from the driver's seat.

8.8. Rear axle- rigid beam axle, production. Attached to the car body via rubber or poly bushes.

9. BRAKES

9.1. The main and slave cylinders are production items and their modification is prohibited.

9.2. Brake pads - not limited.

9.3. Securely fixed air deflectors for brake cooling are permitted.

9.4. ABS is not permitted. The disconnection of the brake servo is permitted but its complete removal is not permitted.

9.5. Brake hoses may be changed for other production items.

9.6. A handbrake is not compulsory but is recommended, its construction is not limited.

9.7. Brake balance regulator- not limited, must not be adjustable from the driver's seat.

10. STEERING MECHANISM

10.1. All components of the steering mechanism are production items.

10.2. Steering rack - production.

10.3. Steering wheel- not limited.

10.4. Steering lock - not permitted.

10.5. Snap-off- production.

10.6. Power steering- not permitted.

10.7. Steering column - it is permitted to place distance pieces between the column and body in order to regulate steering wheel height.

11. WHEELS AND TYRES

11.1. It is permitted to use road tyres with a speed index of at least T. It is forbidden to modify the tyre tread pattern in any way. Min tread depth is 1.6 mm, which must be maintained throughout the race.

11.2. The use of foams and other substances that enable a car to be driven with a punctured tyre is prohibited.

11.3. Wheels- up to 16”, one piece, production, not limited. It is permitted to use spacers between the hub and wheel.

11.4. It is permissible to change the method of fixing of wheels from bolts to studs and nuts provided the number and diameter of fixings is retained.

11.5. The wheel must not extend beyond the outer edge of the wing when viewed from above.

12. ELECTRICS not limited provided the following requirements are met:

12.1. Generator- the generator field excitation may be switched off. At any stage of the race it must be possible to start the car from its own battery.

12.2. The wiring must be well insulated and properly secured.

12.3. The car must have a main earth cut-off switch, which disconnects the battery from the car’s electrical system and stops the engine. The switch must be within the driver’s reach in the normal driving position and must be operable from outside the cockpit via a steel cable.

12.4. The main earth cut-off switch handle outside the car must be labelled with a blue triangle with a side length of at least 80 mm.

12.5. The main electrical circuits, except starter motor (cockpit heater fan, radiator fan, fuel pump, windscreen wipers) must be protected by fuses.

13. EXTERNAL APPEARANCE

13.1. The car must not have any noticeable defects (rust, strongly deformed body panels and wings, cracked glass , etc.), which may in any way effect the safety of the competitions or may damage the reputation of the racing series.

13.2. A securely fastened spare wheel is permitted

13.3. A tow hook that extends beyond the external dimensions of the car body is not permitted.

13.4. Body colour – no restrictions, except for the requirements of the competition regulations.

13.5. Competition numbers – are compulsory for each car, as are the advertising signs required in the competition regulations, which are supplied by the organiser.

13.6. Number plates must be removed or covered during training and competition.

14. CHANGES: The EAL RK may alter or modify these technical regulations during the 2002. season with a 4 week period of notice.

15. TELEMETRY

15.1. The transmission of any kind of information from the car, except for two-way radio communication, is prohibited.

15.2. Information recording systems are not prohibited so long as they do not include accelerometers.

16. DRIVERS’ EQUIPMENT

16.1. During all circuit races, FIA homologated (complying to the FIA 1996 or later standard) fire-proof racing suits, clothes, face masks, socks, driving shoes and gloves must be worn.

16.2. The driver’s helmet must comply with one of the following FIA approved standards:

SIS 88.24.11(2) – Sweden

DS 2124.1 – Denmark

SFS 2653 – Finland

ONS/OMK – Germany (black on white, black on blue, red on white, blue on white marks)

Snell Foundation 1985 or 1990 (Special Applications) – USA
