This car was built in the RaceTech workshop during 2002 as a street-legal drag racer powered by a Chevrolet small-block V8 The engine was prepared and tuned by "American Racing" of Sweden, who in return received an identical ESTfield chassis for their own V8 project. To handle the immense torque from the V8 motor, and the additional weight, the chassis tube x-sections in the top and bottom frames were increased from 25x25 to 25x40 mm. The suspension mounts were beefed up and some modifications were made to accomodate the automatic gearbox bellhousing. The Lada rear axle although strong is not built for such machines, and so a Volvo 240 rear axle was substituted. Our V8 ESTfield was rolled out for the first time on the 10th of August 2002 at the Raadi Drag Race in Tartu. Subsequently we have raced it on the circuit in Pärnu and at all the drag races at Raadi. Each event has enabled us to improve the engine and chassis setup and has given a 1/4 mile time of 13.191 sec on road tyres. We hope next time to translate more of the engine's power into motion by using proper slicks and a limited slip differential. SPECIFICATION |
